Plan B is what happens when fundraising projections don’t pan out. Scaling back or eliminating programs is a possibility for any nonprofit executive. Eighteen percent of local nonprofits recently surveyed have scaled back programs due to the current economic downturn. Fifteen percent have eliminated programs.

New Executive Director Uses a Strategic Planning Process to Connect with His Board of Directors; and to Re-Connect All to the Mission.

As Program Lead for the collaborative Miami NICE initiative, the Center On Nonprofit Effectiveness (C-One) coordinated capacity-building programming and resources for 22 nonprofit organizations selected as Cycle I Miami NICE grant recipients that implemented individual capacity-building projects in early 2009.

Several grantees elected to implement Strategic Planning projects. In this article, C-One features the strategic planning experience of Pridelines Youth Services.

Pridelines is dedicated to educating and empowering South Florida’s Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning (GLBTQ) youth and their straight allies in a safe and diverse environment.

Armed with a Miami NICE ‘capacity-building’ grant, Pridelines Executive Director Luigi Ferrer set out to create a strategic plan to connect with his Board of Directors and to re-connect all to the mission.
